Abstract:

A force method of structural analysis, named topology variational method, is used to compute the reliability of plastic framework. The system failure is defined in terms of a global response measure, thus allowing the formulation of the system problem as a component reliability problem. The force method developed is particularly convenient for reliability analysis where response gradients are required. The approach is demonstrated for an example structure in conjunctions with first and second-order reliability methods.
