Abstract:

There are many factors that affect the safety of construction operations which might lead to failures and accidents. The factors are associated with random, human-based or system uncertainty. The major factors that affect the safety of construction operations are outlined. A safety assessment methodology for estimating the risk of failure and accident of construction operations is developed. It is based on fuzzy sets evaluation to incorporate the uncertainty associated with the factors into the risk management process. A case study is performed to calibrate and evaluate the methodology.
