Abstract:

Based on experimental investigations using steel plate elements subjected to cyclic axial loading, a continuous damage and/or deteriorating process is examined. In order to describe intermediate as well as ultimate damage states, energy related criteria and strength drop considerations seem to be most suitable approaches. The critical aspects, e.g. combination of different types of failure modes, are discussed especially with respect to real physical background and possible solutions are presented.
