Freudenthal Lecture Developments in Structural Reliability

by M. Shinozuka, Princeton Univ, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Safety and Reliability

Abstract:

Rather than reviewing the details of developments in structural reliability theory and its implementation over the last few decades, more recent and more relevant reliability issues are addressed from this writer's point of view. One of the emphases is placed on issues that have direct design and socio-economic implications, while the other is focused on more innovative technical approaches that present intellectual challenges to those who understand reliability issues beyond the usual probabilistic formalism.

Subject Headings: Structural reliability | Structural analysis | Seismic design | System reliability | Load and resistance factor design | Earthquake resistant structures | Dynamic structural analysis
