Abstract:
Prepared by the Task Committee on Risk and Reliability Analysis of Water Distribution Systems of the Committee on Probabilistic Approaches to Hydraulics of the Hydraulics Division of ASCE.
This report presents engineers and researchers with the most up-to-date methodologies for the reliability analysis and reliability-based design of water distribution systems. One section of the report provides a detailed description of network simulation models, optimization models for network design, water system evaluation criteria and procedures, and data base management systems. Another section covers methods for component and system reliability analysis of water distribution systems. A third section covers new methodologies, including water supply evaluation using frequency-duration analysis, methods to analyze the replacement-rehabilitation of water supply systems, and reliability-based optimization methodologies for design and analysis.
The new methodologies presented in this report could become valuable in the assessment of aging water distribution systems and in the design and expansion of water supply systems.
