Renewal of the Burt Dam Generating Station

by Stuart J. McVey, Barber Waterpower Products Ltd, Canada,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '89

Abstract:

The present redeveloped hydro facility operates as a 300 kW run-of-river station automated by a head pond level controller which adjusts turbine setting to match available river discharge. The new turbine was designed to fit into one of the existing 1250 kW turbine pits which consisted of a vertical Francis runner contained within a concrete semi spiral case. The focus of this paper is to describe in detail the design of the replacement turbine and the retro fit associated with this project.
