Abstract:

In recent years microcomputer technology has come to dominate electric control systems. Modern control equipment provides many convenient means for ensuring easy, precise and safe operation of hydro power plants. Considerable progress has been made in supervision, and diagnostics from the control system are used to reduce plant downtime. ABB Generation has developed an advanced computer-based system called HPC (Hydro Power Control) - for supervision and control of hydro power stations. The aim of this paper is to describe the latest version of the ABB control system Hydro Power Control (HPC) and its impact on production economy. Emphasis is given to the MMC (Man Machine Communication) system.
