Abstract:

There can be advantages to using siphon penstocks at small hydro projects, particularly those constructed at existing dams. One problem, however, is a lack of documentation of siphon penstock installations. This paper describes design considerations, construction and operating aspects of 11 operating siphon penstock installations. The paper is based on a review of siphon penstocks made for the United States Department of Energy.
