Acoustic Flowmeter/Efficiency System Installation at the Niagara Power Project

by Richard N. Halas, New York Power Authority, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '89

Abstract:

The New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Power Project (RMNPP) recently installed an acoustic flowmeter/efficiency system on two 150 MW rated generators. This paper describes the equipment layout of this on-line turbine efficiency system along with the experiences that were encountered during the installation. The flow/efficiency system will be used as an analytical tool for determining efficient loading of each unit, scheduling unit maintenance, and it will also serve an important role during the Niagara Project upgrade beginning in 1991.
