Abstract:

This paper provides general information about this major hydroelectric project on the Parana River on the border between Argentina and Paraguay in South America. In addition, some specific information is reviewed regarding the mechanical design for the twenty 9.5 meter runner diameter vertical Kaplan turbines. A general overview of the total project is provided and the mechanical design of the turbine components is discussed. Deflection considerations and manufacturing facilities replace traditional concerns.
