Abstract:

This paper presents a microcomputer based software system, HYOPS, to optimize the operations of a series of hydro plants on a river system. The model can accommodate up to 10 plants which operate in series. The model runs on a 24-hour basis where inputs, primarily predicted average stream and tributary inflows, and incremental generation system costs are made on a daily basis. The program develops a set of operating recommendations to maximize the economic value of the hydro system. The paper discusses the operating logic of the model and present sample output of a simulation.
