Abstract:

A low-head hydropower generating facility has been proposed at an existing dam site on a river. The state environmental agency has required an environmental evaluation into the potential impact of the facility on water quality. The principal concern is the reduction of aeration when flow is diverted from the spillway to the turbines. The result of the environmental evaluation, as it applies to instream oxygen impacts, is presented in this paper.
