by Edward F. Carter, Harza Engineering Co, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '89

Abstract:

To meet Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements for a new license, owners must demonstrate full development of the available water resource. This paper presents an approach or screening process for studying important aspects of the full development of the water resource. The process covers present operation and possible expansion of powerplants through consideration of: (1) inspection and efficiency of present equipment, (2) plant operation and energy output, (3) type, size, and number of generation units, (4) options for new capacity and existing equipment restoration, (5) costs, and (6) benefits and economics.
