Abstract:

An intensive design project was undertaken with the objective of retrofitting two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) dam sites for hydroelectric power generation. The challenge of designing the retrofits has been to optimize power generation without jeopardizing the current COE mandated objectives for the dams. One of the projects is located at Bloomington Lake and the North Potomac River at Barnum, West Virginia, and the other at the Gathright Dam on the Jackson River at Covington, Virginia.
