Grid Requirements for Numerical Models Containing Training Works

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

The numerical modeling of the rapid changes in flow variable in open channel flow systems containing training works, such as dikes, requires special attention in grid development. This investigation uses the truncation error in a finite element representation as an indicator to suggest grid expansion rates, orientation and skewness in the grid, as well as element type (quadrilateral or triangle).
