Abstract:

Based on the concepts of entropy and graph theory, a functional form is developed as a quantitative measure for redundancy in water distribution networks. This function was obtained by defining the desirable properties of the redundancy function in terms of the physical situation of redundancy in water distribution networks. The procedure extends earlier work on entropy application in redundancy of water distribution networks by explicitly considering the role multiple paths have in providing redundancy. The redundancy measure is demonstrated and evaluated on the basis of its application to example network.
