Abstract:

Boussinesq equations describing one-dimensional unsteady, rapidly varied flows are numerically integrated by using a second-order and a fourth-order accurate explicit finite-difference scheme to simulate the formation of an hydraulic jump. Computed results agree satisfactorily with the experimental results for the fourth-order scheme but the location of the jump is is not accurately predicted by the second-order scheme.
