Mathematical Modeling of Water Balance in a Well Defined Pilot Area

by Ahmed El Khashab, Cairo Univ, Egypt,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: National Water Conference

Abstract:

This study developed a water balancing computer code, a type of book keeping method using a detailed version of the hydrologic balance equation. The purpose was to provide a method of investigating the water use and distribution system of agricultural areas to determine the efficiency and suggest possible means of system improvement. Of special interest was the conjunctive use patterns in the Eastern Nile Delta. The Eastern Delta was chosen as a case study because of the variety of water problems in the region, especially shortages during critical periods and a system operating below design efficiencies.
