Abstract:

A mathematical model study, using System 11 model of the Danish Hydraulic Institute, is made to assess the impact of flood control polders upon flood level of Atrai River in Bangladesh. Construction of polders along both sides of the river has caused 1.12 m increase in peak flood stage in 1986 while the flood storage capacity of the basin decreased by approximately 44%. A solution to the problem could be to allow flood water inside the polder P2.
