Abstract:

The information presented in this paper provides a framework for analysis of rapid sand filter performance. Process variables are quantitatively related to filter design variables in a manner which will allow simulation of filter operations considering changes in flow, influent solids, and backwash conditions. The analysis framework also provides estimates of the loadings and variations of recycled backwash flows and solids.
