Abstract:

On April 6th, 1983, the 'Parque Nacional Marinho dos Abrolhos' (PARNA) was created by a decree of the Brazilian Presidency. The PARNA was established with two distinct areas: one centered in the 'Parcel dos Abrolhos'; and the other in one of the inner reefs. This paper discusses the background to the park's development, problems in creating it, development of PARNA, the 3-year management plan, and other aspects of the subject.
