Abstract:

In recent years a significant effort has been made by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to develop new design models, to collect and summarize existing load test data and to conduct additional load tests for drilled shafts and direct embedded poles. This paper presents the results of a statistical analysis of the predictive capabilities of EPRI's computer code CUFAD (Compression-Uplift Foundation Analysis and Design) using the EPRI full-scale load test data base for drilled shafts in uplift. The predictive capabilities of CUFAD are compared with predictions made by the traditional cylindrical shear model and the truncated cone model.
