Abstract:

The analysis and evaluation of several alternatives for foundations of a high rise office building is presented, which resulted in the selection of a combination of high capacity piles and rock socketed caissons. A detailed subsurface investigation and testing program was performed, which included in-situ pressuremeter tests made within the borings, laboratory compression on shear tests on rock cores, and other tests to determine rock strength and compressibility parameters, used to establish friction and bearing pressure design values for caissons. Test results and analytical methods used for the study and design of foundations are also summarily presented.
