Abstract:

A microcomputer program called NEWNEG is presented. It addresses the problem of single piles subjected to downdrag. The analytical background relies on the equilibrium of the pile and the compatibility of movements. No empiricism is used. The program input is the pile dimensions, the soil settlement profile, and the maximum friction profile. The output is the force along the pile, the settlement of the pile top, and the location of the neutral point. The program can also be used for other similar problems such as uplift on drilled shaft and piles due expansive clays, permafrost, or downdrag on bitumen coated piles.
