Abstract:

This paper presents an application of a recently developed approach for computing the tip settlement of axially loaded single piles driven into compressible layered soil system. In this approach, a theoretical solution for the expansion of a cavity in a layered elastic medium at the tip of a single pile is used to evaluate the settlement. Results of several pile load tests are used to assess the validity of the approach. The results reported in this paper show that the predicted settlements are generally in good agreement with the results of most of the pile load tests.
