Abstract:

This paper starts with a brief introduction to the dilatometer and piezoblade. Test results in four different areas are presented. DMT soundings at LR 67057 (Legislative Route numbers are assigned to roads which the state of Pennsylvania is responsible for) are discussed. Then, in situ results are compared to available laboratory findings. A possible correlation is proposed between constrained modulus from a DMT and a compression index from a consolidation test. Further, the results of a DMT at LR 1000 are presented, as well as test results from LR 1003. The results of DMT and piezoblade soundings from the Massena site in New York are also discussed. Dilatometer modulus and N-values from SPT soundings are compared for sandy soil. In addition, M and N-values are compared for silty and clayey soil.
