Abstract:

This paper describes a screw plate test device developed with a capability to measure the generation and dissipation of excess pore water pressure during testing in cohesive soils. The interpretative techniques for analysis of the test data to evaluate undrained and drained soil parameters, and pore water pressure considerations have been described. Experimental results of tests performed in a saturated soft clay deposit and evaluated soil parameters are summarized. The test device can be used successfully to determine the drained/undrained parameters and load-compression response of cohesive soils. The parameters can be used to analyze the in situ behavior of foundations by conventional methods.
