Abstract:

This paper suggests that the direct stiffness method is still useful in dealing with the nonlinear analysis for the aseismic capacity of highrise steel frame while the Pseudo-elastic approach is introduced. After the first plastic hinge appears, the steel frame will perform inelastically since steel members and connections shall behave in according with elasto-plastic model; however, the elasto-plastic equivalent strain energy relationship is emphasized so that the pseudo-elastic response could be transfered to the real inelastic response with seismic loads which can be amplified linearly from a given earthquake, the frame can be analyzed nonlinearly for its aseismic capacity and ductility rapidly.
