Abstract:

Inverted V braced steel structures with backup ductile moment-resisting frames forming a dual system, exhibit complex inelastic behavior under severe seismic excitations. Thus, current design procedures for this structural system may be still inadequate in reflecting its peculiar properties. In this paper, a simple and practical method for safe design of such a dual system is presented with experimental verification.
