Abstract:

This structure consists of a 5 layered complex shape of long-span steel roof structure, and reinforced concrete (RC) and steel reinforced concrete (SRC) supporting structures. The roof structure is composed of four 54-meter span perimeter trusses with parallel chords following the roof line, carrying main girders in pairs, also cranked to follow the roof shape. The rigid-floor assumption cannot be made for such a roof structure. A new, practical aseismic design procedure was developed, which can predict the dynamic characteristics of such complex shapes. In order to verify the adequacy of this procedure and the safety of the structure, analytical simulations were compared with observed records from two earthquakes and from vibration tests.
