Structural Considerations in Design and Construction Process of a 25 Story Office Building

by Shigetaka Abe, Takenaka Corp, Japan,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Seismic Engineering: Research and Practice

Abstract:

This paper introduces an example in which a steel office building of 25 stories above the ground was constructed employing innovative techniques. One of them was the use of precast concrete slabs for the floor to achieve rationalization of construction works, and another, in terms of the structural engineering, was the use of composite beam formed by combining steel beams with mechanical fasteners, after confirming the favorable effect of such a composite beam by experiments. This paper further describes the outline of a structural design using the composite beam as a member of the main frame.
