Abstract:

Procedures for the safety evaluation of buildings in earthquake damaged areas have been developed. Two evaluation techniques, Rapid Screening and Detailed Inspection, are described. Rapid Screening is used for the quick assessment of buildings in the damaged area and can be used by building inspectors and others familiar with building construction. Detailed Inspection is a more thorough evaluation technique and is intended to be used by structural engineers.
