Abstract:

Published reports pertaining to fatigue tests of welded and mechanical splices in reinforcing bars were reviewed. It was observed that most specimens fractured in the reinforcing bar adjacent to or close to the end of the splice, rather than in the splice itself. The fatigue life of some splice specimens was less than the design fatigue life of an otherwise identical unspliced bar.
