Abstract:

New analysis methods for truss and continuous beam considering material nonlinearity are developed on the basis of the principle of minimum complementary energy and mathematical programming techniques. The analysis problems of the structures with nonlinear materials are formulated as the total complementary energy minimization problems subject to linear equilibrium equations and the member forces are determined by utilizing modified sequential quadratic programming algorithms. The generality, accuracy and efficiency of the analysis methods proposed are confirmed by comparing with those of the finite element methods.
