Abstract:

In this paper, several applications of fuzzy mathematical programming in structural optimization are reviewed and discussed. In addition, a formulation of optimum earthquake resistant design is derived based on fuzzy mathematical programming. To improve the design formulation, a survey was conducted, during which several sets of questionnaires were distributed among experienced structural designers to find their preference in the design of earthquake resistant structures.
