Abstract:

Establishment of a regional consortium of western states for purposes of defining long-term objectives and making common cause in the development of advanced highway technology was undertaken in 1987-1988. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the University of California undertook this as part of an outreach effort in the state Program on Advanced Technology for the Highway (PATH). The basis for this initiative is described in the context of the PATH effort, preliminary objectives defined, and future plans for the consortium discussed.
