Abstract:

The future of Portland Cement Concrete Paving in the 21st Century holds vast challenges that we as industry must be ready to tackle head on. Looking ahead, we see an even more vital role for concrete pavement. The need for major reconstruction of our aging highway system, the modernization of highway networks around expanding cities and towns, and the expansion of airports can no longer be delayed. New designs, incentives, materials, equipment and construction procedures will see major changes in the future. The future of our industry and the transportation system lies in resurfacing, restoration, recycling, and reconstruction as well as the development of new materials; designs; paving equipment; construction procedures and quality assistance.
