Abstract:

The Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982 gave new life back to the concrete paving industry by bringing a welcomed and necessary increase in the volume of concrete paving work. This 'new' paving work ranges from 'whitetopping' rutted, uneven asphalt highways to trying to add additional lanes to an existing concrete highway while maintaining traffic. We will continue to face this 'new' type of paving work on into the 21st Century. This paper describes larger Concrete Slipform Paving Equipment used on airport and mainline Interstate Highway work.
