Abstract:

Large space structures require a vehicle to support assembly, operations, and maintenance. These vehicles may be designed for specific tasks or for general use throughout the life of the space facility. Many of the system requirements for these vehicles will be common for various applications. This paper focuses on the phased Space Station mobile transporter as a representative support vehicle for large space structures. Four major areas of the mobile transporter are discussed: design requirements, system description, operations, and potential applications of the MT technology.
