Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space

Abstract:

Many aspects of the space environment are recognized hazards for activities above the Earth's atmosphere. One of the most dramatic hazards is that posed by the diverse energetic particle environment. This paper addresses the potential sources and the nature of that hazard. A description of space 'climatology' to provide a basis for evaluation of the risk associated with space construction resulting from the energetic particle environment is presented.
