Candor Chasma Camp

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space

Abstract:

This paper proposes a camp at Mars, in the Coprates region of the Valles Marineris rift, just below the equator on Candor Mensa 6-12'S, 73-30'W. Beginning at an elevation of 3900 meters and sloping south at 1.5 %, this 20 kilometer wide platform is roughly median between the rim and floor of Valles Marineris. Concepts essential to the orderly development of a sustained human presence on Mars may be identified from design of such a camp.
