Abstract:

We discuss the design of a permanent lunar base of 100 person size which may be able to expand to a base of about 500 person size. We present a preliminary design for a base concept which would be developed in a similar manner as a commercial real estate development would be carried out on Earth. We show a structural design concept for enclosing large areas at Earth atmospheric pressures. We identify some subjects for further research into materials and construction methods for a large lunar base which may be done on the smaller initial lunar bases.
