Abstract:

A new unsteady flow simulation model, FLDWAV, has been developed by the National Weather Service for application on either micro-, mini-, or mainframe computers. FLDWAV is based on an implicit finite-difference solution of the complete one-dimensional Saint-Venant equations of unsteady flow coupled with an assortment of internal boundary conditions for simulating unsteady flows controlled by a wide spectrum of hydraulic structures. The flow may occur in a single waterway or a system of inter-connected waterways in which sinuosity effects are considered. Special modeling features, calibration, data input, applications, and other aspects of the subject are discussed.
