U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sedimentation Engineer Manual A. Overview

by Yung-Huang Kuo, US Army Corps of Engineers, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Soil Properties Evaluation from Centrifugal Models and Field Performance

Abstract:

Until the 1970's, sediment analyses within the Corps of Engineers were mostly confined to estimates of the reservoir sediment storage needed, for the life of the project. Existing Engineer Manual entitled 'Reservoir Sedimentation Investigation Program' was published in 1961 to provide information and instructions for use in planning and conducting programs for reservoir sedimentation investigations. In 1976 the existing manual was revised and expanded to serve as a guide for all Corps of Engineers sedimentation investigations associated with water resources projects but excluding harbors, estuaries and ocean coastal aspects. This manual specially addresses sedimentation problems in rivers and reservoirs.
