Abstract:

The rarity of earthquake-related dam failure does not mean that it can't happen. A phased geologic assessment could prevent potential catastrophe by determining where and when an earthquake might strike and what effect it could have on a dam. Recent studies in Utah and Wyoming highlight methods, results and uncertainties associated with earthquake hazard assessment.
