Abstract:

Large quantities of small diameter mains within Los Angeles' water distribution network has necessitated the development of new main improvement programs. The introduction of the Small Main Cement Mortar Lining Program, along with a planned main replacement program, is proving to be an economical means of dealing with the deteriorating water system infrastructure. A second new program, Small Main Replacement (by contract), has begun to increase the amount of annual main replacement. These new programs, in addition to the Department's Large Main Cement Mortar Lining Program and facilities replacement programs, will help achieve the goals of rehabilitating the pipeline system and providing long-term life extension of these vital facilities.
