Abstract:

The Utilities Division, Iowa Department of Commerce, is responsible for the rate, service, and safety regulation of utility companies in the State of Iowa. This paper will summarize a report prepared for the Iowa Department of Commerce which included the historical development of natural gas distribution systems, review of special problems associated with cast iron pipe, comparison of leak frequency, cause, and hazard among different types of distribution piping, and evaluation of leak history versus unaccounted-for gas.
