Abstract:

The safe yield available from surface water impoundments serving the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, was evaluated, and the sensitivity of the reservoir system to several factors was investigated. All evaluations used a computer program that simulates reservoir operations on a monthly basis. A direct relationship was identified between safe yield and available storage in one impoundment, and the entire system safe yield was shown to be highly sensitive to monthly inflows.
