Abstract:

This paper reports analytical investigations into the system strength and reliability evaluation of existing bridges using 3-D inelastic analysis and damage scenarios. In this context, a measure for bridge redundancy is used. This measure offers useful information to evaluate how the overall bridge strength is affected by various damage states. Corrosion damage and accidental occurrences which remove bridge elements are considered as possible damage scenarios. Their impact on both system strength and reliability of an existing bridge is evaluated.
