Abstract:

A method of sensitivity analysis is developed for nonlinear structural systems which are governed by incremental finite element equations. The formulation originates in the perturbation method and retains its advantage. Namely a nonlinear finite element analysis needs to be done only once; based on which the sensitivities are evaluated. The proposed formulation can cope with a wider class of nonlinear problems such as load path dependent problems. An elasto-plastic problem including unloading is solved to demonstrate the potential.
